说起趵突泉名称的由来，一定要记住北宋文学家曾巩。趵突泉早年名号繁杂，有人以其为泺水的源头，便称其为“泺”；百姓看三道泉喷发的壮盛景观，又称之为“三股水”或“瀑流”；直至北宋，曾巩以其卓异才思为这泓名泉起了日后四海传扬的名字——趵突泉。“趵”是跳跃的意思，“突”是突出的样子，“趵突’二字传神地表达了泉水日夜喷涌跳跃而出的景象。由此，名泉与泉名相得益彰，传颂不绝。How the Name of Baotu Spring Came From When we talk about how the name of Baotu Spring came from, Zeng Gong, litterateur of the North Song Dynasty must be mentioned. Baotu Spring had different names in the early years. Someone called it Luo because it was the headwaters of Luoshui; someone called it Three Onrushes or Flush of Water for its splendid scenery of spring water gushing out of the three mouths. In the North Song Dynasty, Zeng Gong named it Baotu Spring which, subsequently, became widespread all over the country. Bao means jumping while Tu means extruding. Those two characters have vividly described the scenery of the spring water flushing day and night. Since then, the famous spring and the name of the spring have brought out the best in each other and passed from generation to generation.
